In my last post blog basics were discussed. Choosing a niche, name, and platform was covered as well as determining your target audience and consistency. Now that the basics are out of the way, it is time to focus on content. Have you heard the phrase "content is king"? While blog elements such as logo, colors, images serve as reader attractors, it is the articles that will rule your readership level. The success of your blog lies heavily in creating and posting quality articles. If this seems intimidating to you, that is okay. The purpose of this article is to share with you how you can create content that attracts, engages, and retains readers.
Draw Readers in With Your Title
Choose a title that sparks interest, that will pique a reader's curiosity, enticing him or her to clink on the link to see what your post is all about. In a deep sea of related articles and posts you want yours to be the one the reader chooses to explore. A title that stands out will help make this happen. Remember this little nugget when deciding on each of your article titles.
Can The Reader Relate?
All topics are not of interest to all readers. Don't forget about the target audience that we discussed in the last post. You want to write about topics that will appeal to this group of readers. If you are targeting readers in the 65 and older age group, articles about Medicare and bathroom safety are fitting. Examples of blog topics you could provide for this target audience include: how to choose a Medicare plan and bathroom safety products for seniors. However, if you are trying to reach the 25-39 year old audience, this is not the content that you would want to provide.
Set the Tone
Write in a conversational tone, talking to your readers, not at them. Readers will be more engaged with dialogue that is directed to them. Don't just throw out information to the readers, ask them questions also. These questions may be answered by the reader to him or herself or feedback can be given in the comments section of your blog. The point is to provide some give and take. Keep it simple, use everyday language, avoiding jargon, unless you are writing for a technical niche.
Watch Your Words
When it comes to word count you want your blog post to be long enough to adequately cover your topic, but not so long that it overwhelms the reader. Dependent upon your niche, target audience, and the subject matter you are covering, a good guide to follow for word length is a minimum of 400-500 hundred words and a maximum of 1500-2000 words. Another key issue involving words is the use of keywords. Keywords can be utilized in your title as well as the body of the post. These keywords help your post to show up in google/web searches.
